The Stuchostow Benevolent Society was established by immigrants hailing from Suchostaw, Ukraine. There are two cemetery plots for the Suchostow Benevolent Society, one located in Mount Hebron Cemetery, and the other located in Beth David Cemetery, both located in Queens, NY.

Initial Jewish presence in Suchostaw dates to the 9th century. Through the years, the Jews of Suchostaw developed their religious, cultural, and social institutions. Jewish settlement began to increase substantially during the 14th century. Jews made their livings as innkeepers, tax collectors, and leasers of breweries and flour mills. Suchostow was destroyed during the Cossack-Sweden wars (1648-1656), but was reestablished by the 1760s. By this time, Jews have expanded their professions to include small businesses, peddling, crafts, and trade. During World War I, about 200 Jews emigrated. Suchostaw fell under German occupation in September of 1942. About 12 Jews survived the Holocaust.
