1st Uscieczer KUV

The 1st Uscieczer KUV Society was founded in New York by immigrants hailing from Ustechko, Ukraine.

A 1765 census shows that there were about 235 Jews in Ustechko (“47 houses”). This number increased to just over 960 Jews by the 1880s. During the first half of the 19th century, a Jewish court was functioning, with Rabbi Tzvi Shlomo serving as its judge. An elementary school established by Baron Hirsh had about 80 students enrolled. In the 1930s, various Zionist organizations came into effect, including a HaRevizionistim branch and a branch of the Poalei-Zion.

The Jews of Ustechko perished under German occupation, most having been deported to Tluste in October of 1942. Only fragments of some of the stones that were in the Jewish cemetery have been recovered and have been relocated to the Christian cemetery.
